We popularize science – 17th Lublin Science Festival

On 18-24 September 2021 the 17th Lublin Science Festival took place. The aim of the Festival is to popularize science in society through the presentation of interesting scientific projects in the form of lectures, demonstrations or workshops prepared by the staff of five universities in Lublin (UMCS, KUL, UM, UP and PL) and the Institute of Agrophysics PAN.

Also members of our team – Szymon Malinowski and Lidia Bandura prepared a project in the form of a demonstration entitled “The world of chemistry closed in the ball”. During of this project they presented how to obtain capsules from a biopolymer – sodium alginate and the possibility of closing different chemical substances – dyes or minerals – inside the capsules. Our chemists explained the reactions of alginate crosslinking, the idea of encapsulation and practical use of such materials. The show during the Festival took place both during the Science Picnic located in the open area of the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin and in the Auditorium of Lublin University of Technology using audiovisual techniques.

The show was very popular, especially among the youngest children, who did not mind the unfavourable weather conditions during the Picnic. Children willingly approached the show stand, and during the show at the PL building actively participated in this colourful and interesting project.
